The Tip of the Day command displays the Tip of the Day dialog. This dialog contains useful tips to help you gain a better understanding of some of the subtle points of using GIMP. New users will find it very valuable to pay attention to these, because they often suggest ways of doing something that are much easier or more efficient than more obvious approaches.

4.4.1. Activating the Command

You can access this command in the toolbox menu through Help → Tip of the day

A new tip is displayed each time you start GIMP. You can disable this by un-checking the Show tip next time GIMP starts box on the dialog.
